Now Brewing and Serving Pachamama Coffee in Cusco, Peru - Where it All Began

Posted by Helen Lentze on

We are thrilled to announce that we are now brewing and serving Pachamama Coffee in Cusco, Peru in collaboration with our friends at Paka Apparel. This sustainable clothing brand with full traceability in its supply chain just launched their very first retail store in the heart of the city. Our team traveled to Peru to kickstart this exciting project with Paka and Pachamama farmer owners from Cocla, who produce and roast the beans.

It was in the ancient city of Cusco where our journey began two decades ago. Our visionary founders, spearheaded by Raul del Aguila of Cocla, dreamed of roasting and brewing their coffee in North America, thereby making smallholder farmers owners and profit makers. With this vision and tremendous tenacity, Pachamama grew to what it is today with its five cafes and a state-of-the-art roastery, employing more than 70 coffee experts in the United States who sell and brew their roasted coffee directly to consumers. It is therefore so meaningful to all of us at Pachamama, that our coffee is served directly to coffee lovers in Cusco at the very source.

Our Chief of Retail, Cruz Conrad, flew to Peru to train Paka’s baristas himself: “Our mission has always been about empowering communities—both where we source our coffee and where it is enjoyed. With this partnership, we bring these communities together as one. Pachamama’s farmer owners at Cocla will roast and deliver the finest coffee to Sebastian’s Coffee Hut, located inside Paka. The cafe will be staffed and operated by highly trained baristas from Santa Teresa, Pachamama Coffee’s growing region in Peru.”

Years ago, it was difficult to find brewed highest-quality served at origin, simply because it is such a valuable export crop, but this has changed in recent years. Not only does Paka serve superb coffee, our team saw multiple third wave coffee shops and cafes lining the streets as they explored Cusco.  We are excited to be part of this trend and continue to grow opportunities for everyone to experience firsthand the exceptional quality of coffee delivered by Pachamama’s Farmer Owned business model.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Paka for this opportunity and invite everyone to join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter. Salud a la Pachamama y Paka!
