2021 Speciality Coffee association
Sustainability Award
Our business model was recognized by the Specialty Coffee Association for its impact for small scale farmers. By investing in a solid foundation of economic stability at each link, Pachamama’s supply chain can sustain itself. Our business model delivers an equitable distribution of value for all who depend upon the future of specialty coffee.
Packaging:
Plant Based & Compostable
The time for single use waste is gone. Our packaging is plant based and compostable to help heal our planet.
Our team thought long and hard on finding solutions to our packaging problem. We made the switch to compostable bags without compromise for the quality of the coffee in your hands.
On the Ground
Certified Organic + Shade Grown
As small holder farmers, it is ever important for our owners to prioritize decisions that keep their land viable to sustain generations to come, not just to grow coffee, but for the food and water they rely on. When the founding farmers united to form Pachamama, they wanted a business to reflect their commitments to their land and communities. By earning more through the farmer-owned business model, farmers can reinvest into their land and grow better coffee for you every harvest.
Organic farming takes more time, effort and commitment but it builds long-term resiliency in the ecosystem, in the soil, and the health of the plants, animals and people for future generations.
Cooperatives build a better world
In the Community
The root of the sustainability issue for coffee is more than environmental impacts, it reflects the social implications due the price instability and exploitation that can be found in the supply chain. Oftentimes, coffee producers are just breaking even on their operations due to chronically fluctuating prices on the global market. This means that they can’t invest back into their crops and more importantly, they don’t have the access to reinvest into their families and communities.
Cooperatives have long been a solution for small farmers to better access international markets and the necessary tools to grow and sell their coffee. This way of collective action is used to build resilient communities with like minded people who understand the collective problems they face to work together and solve them. They are truly run by and for the community.
We hope you see coffee as we do, not as just a commodity but the people who work tirelessly behind every step to deliver you your morning cup.
