Summary: Pachamama's organic green coffee beans are now available in 2lb, 5lb, 10lb, and 25lb bags for home roasters, micro-roasters, and cafés. They are the same single-origin lots roasted in Sacramento, grown by the member cooperatives in Perú, Nicaragua, Guatemala, México, and Ethiopia, and this year's harvest cups at 85 points and above. Below: What direct trade green coffee means, how the beans are sourced, and why a roaster would sell them raw.
Today, we are expanding access to our green, unroasted organic coffee beans and are making them available in larger volumes for home roasters, micro-roasters, and small cafés looking to roast their own single-origin coffee in-house.
Pachamama's single-origin specialty coffee beans are available in 2lb, 5lb, 10lb and 25lb boxes and come straight from our five farmer-owned cooperatives in Perú, Nicaragua, México, Guatemala, and Ethiopia; we also offer a single-origin decaf from México. They are the same exquisite beans we roast ourselves, and we might add that this year's harvest is as good as it gets.
Home roasting often fills the kitchen with the warm smells of toasted nuts, chocolate, and a little caramel the way only fresh-roasted coffee can.
That transformation only goes as far as what is inside the bean to begin with - the flavor, the fragrance, the complexity all trace back to the farm and the quality of the green beans you started with.
Farmers and consumers are the two most important people in coffee
If you roast at home, you already understand something a lot of coffee drinkers don't: the real work, the true character of a cup, is decided long before it ever touches a roaster.
Buying green coffee puts you closer to the source. And if you run a small café or micro-roastery, you now have direct access to farmer-owned, organic, regeneratively grown beans, straight from the farm.
Every bag of green coffee we sell is one more direct connection between a farmer and the person who will turn that bean into something of their own. That's the whole point of Pachamama — coffee that starts and ends with the people who grow it and the people who drink it, with as little standing in between as we can manage.
Why sell organic green coffee beans before we roast them?
As Pachamama's CEO, Thaleon Tremain, recently put it: "We like to sell coffee directly to you – whether it's roasted or not – we want you to love this coffee."
Our goal is to sell coffee; this is what we do - in any shape or form. We grow it, we are proud of it, and we want it to find a home, whether that home is our own café roastery or your kitchen counter. As Pachamama's CEO, Thaleon Tremain, recently put it: "We like to sell coffee directly to you – whether it's roasted or not – we want you to love this coffee."
That might sound surprising coming from a coffee roaster. After all, roasting is where most of the industry's profit sits. Take raw beans worth a few dollars, apply ten to fifteen minutes of heat, and it can sell for several times more.
But here's the difference: Pachamama is 100% farmer-owned and always Certified Organic - all of our profit flows back to the farmers who grew it.
This is what makes selling green coffee in bulk such a natural extension of who we are. Typically, roasters buy their green beans on the open commodity market, from exporters and traders several steps removed from the farm. We don't. Pachamama's farmer-owners grow the coffee and sell it via their own cooperative based in Sacramento, California.
When you buy coffee directly from us, you are buying from the farmer twice over - once when the raw coffee itself is purchased, and again, down the line, when profit from every roasted bag flows back from Pachamama to its member cooperatives. It is a direct trade between producer and consumer.
When farmers own the business, you get the best beans.
Pachamama farmer-owners always save their best beans for Pachamama, the company they own. They earn the highest price, which they have set themselves. Well-paid farmers reinvest in healthy soil and trees, so every harvest brings the highest quality beans, and it gets better year after year.
This year's harvest is exceptional by any measure. These coffees cup consistently at 85 points or above on the cupping table. They are all single-origins and are grown through regenerative, organic, smallholder farming in Peru, Nicaragua, Guatemala, México and Ethiopia. It is coffee that, by our estimate, ranks among the top few percent in the world for quality. Whether you roast it yourself or let us do it for you, the bean underneath is the same exceptional coffee.
